The winds cause waves on the surface of the ocean. The winds transfers some of its energy to the water, through friction between air molecules and water molecules. The stronger the wind, the larger the wave.
ReplyDeleteWhat causes waves in the ocean?
ReplyDeleteThe most common cause of ocean waves is wind or air movement. Volcanic activity can also cause waves.
As the wind blows over the surface of the water, it tries to bring the surface of the water with it. The surface water cannot move as fast as air, so the water rises.
The winds cause waves on the surface of the ocean (and on lakes). The wind transfers some of its energy to the water, through friction between the air molecules and the water molecules. Stronger winds (like storm surges) cause larger waves. You can make your own miniature waves by blowing across the surface of a pan of water.
ReplyDeleteWaves of water do not move horizontally, they only move up and down (a wave does not represent a flow of water). You can see a demonstration of this by watching a floating buoy bob up and down with a wave; it does not, however, move horizontally with the wave.
what causes waves in the ocean
ReplyDeletethe air causes the movement of the waves the waves size depnds on how small or big the wind is or how slow and fast it is.when the wind croses the ocean it trize to drag the surface of water with it. water moves slower than air so the water rises. then it is pulled back down by gravity
Davis Kim What causes the waves in the ocean? Waves travel effortlessly along the water's surface. This is made possible by small movements of the water molecules. The wind blows over the water, changing its surface into ripples and waves. As waves grow in height, the wind pushes them along faster and higher. That is what causes waves.
ReplyDeleteWhy does the ocean have tides?
ReplyDeleteThe ocean and the moon have a gravitational attraction, so the moon causes the tides. The moon's gravity tugs on the ocean. When earth rotates, the ocean shores pass the oceans pass the bulge.
The most common cause of surface ocean waves is the wind. Waves within the ocean can also be caused by tides, submatine earthquakes or volcanic activity, and storms. Wave size depends on wind speed and the distance of water over which the wind blows. The longer the distance the wind travels over water, or the harder it blows, the higher the waves.
ReplyDeleteAs the wind blows over the water, it tries to drag the surface of the water with it. The surface water cannot move as fast as air, so the water rises. After it rises, the water is pulled back down by gravity. This tug of war between gravity and water pressure creates wave motion.
Why does the ocean have tides?
ReplyDeleteThe ocean has tides which are formed by two gravitational sources. The two gravitational sources are the sun and the moon. When the moon moves, the ocean also moves, creating the tides. The sun is larger than the earth and moon, but because the moon is closer to us, it only produces 46% of what the moon pulls.

What causes waves in the ocean?
ReplyDeleteThe wind causes the movement of the waves.Depending how much wind there is the size of the waves change. As the wind blows it tries to bring the surface water with it. Of course water moves slower than air so the water rises. For a few seconds then the water is pulled back down beacause of the gravity. That is what causes the waves in the ocean.
When the air is very strong it may cause an wave.Sometimes when there is a movement in the ground it also causes huge waves,or when large blocks of ice melt it may cause a wave. Also when there are typhoons they create waves.
ReplyDeleteWaves transport energy from one wave to another. Ocean waves are a type of wave that's known as a mechanical wave, you see there are two types of waves, mechanical, and electromagnetic. they're known as mechanical wave because mechanical waves use medium to transport. Medium is a type of matter that's disturbed by a type of energy, and the same energy that disturbed the matter creates the waves, which are actually chains of vibrating molecules that are found in the water. Which actually makes water move through medium in the form of water waves.
ReplyDeleteWhat causes waves in the ocean?
ReplyDeleteThe most common cause of waves is air movement. If wind blows fast for a very long time there will be big waves. When wind goes over the water it tries to drag all of the water from the surface, and that is what causes waves. Water can not move as fast as air. Then the water rises and is pulled down by gravity.
As the wind blows, it "pushes" the ocean water ahead of it. The wind
ReplyDeleteactually transfers some of its energy into the water. The water is able to "gain"
energy from the wind because of the friction between the wind and the water. We can all test this by blowing over a cup of water and observing the "ripples" or waves that result. A simpler method of demonstrating the concept of friction is to place a pencil on table. Next, wave your hand across the top of the pencil and actually touch the pencil with the palm of your hand. The pencil should roll in the same direction that your hand is moving. This is how the wind reacts with the water to produce waves. Over the oceans and lakes, the waves that are generated as a result of the wind are called "wind-waves".
Q: Why does the ocean have tides?
ReplyDeleteA: Because tides are caused by the tidal forces of the moon and sun. The moon creates the tidal forces because of a gravitational pull. The sun however acts like the oceans partner by effecting the tides by itself and its light bouncing off different objects. When the moon is a new moon it makes what is called a spring tide. The spring tide is caused when the moon, sun, and earth are all in a straight line. Spring tides can get vicious and dangerous. One weeks after a Spring tide happens the moon moves to the right side of the sun and they create a Neap tide. Neap tides are weak and quite feeble, exactly the opposite of Spring tides.

what causes waves in the ocean?
ReplyDeleteWaves are made in differt ways, gravity, wind and earthquakes. The rise and fall of the water makes waves form.Waves can be tiny ripples insted of huge things.
Q:What causes waves in the ocean.
ReplyDeleteA:The most common reason for waves is the wind. Other reasons are earthquakes, volcano, tides and other waves.
what causes wave in the ocean??
ReplyDeletethe wind blows over the water causing ripples and waves.
if the wind is blowing softly, it ripples and if the wind blows harder it turns into big waves. thats why when you go wave jumping and you see a big wave and when it arrives it is small is because the wind slowly gets softer once it reaches the surface
WHAT CAUSES OCESAN WAVES?
ReplyDeleteOcean waves are caused by wind. When the air rushes over the sea, it moves. It starts tossing. Waves are very cool. They can create rocks and land. This is called rock formation.
What causes waves in the ocean?
ReplyDeleteMostly ocean waves are caused by the force of the wind.If the wind is slow then the waves become lower,if the wind becomes stonger the waves become higher. If you see a big wave coming, at the end it turns out really small beacause the force of the wind get's lower.
Waves are COOL!!!:)
